What’s the President smoking?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama said in an interview aired on Monday he worried that detainees freed from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo, Cuba, might resume attacks on the United States.

But he told NBC News that closure of the prison was a matter of upholding U.S. values and law, and that a failure to do so would ultimately make Americans less secure.

“Can we guarantee that they’re not going to try to participate in another attack? No,” Obama said. “But what I can guarantee is that if we don’t uphold our Constitution and our values, that over time that will make us less safe. And that will be a recruitment tool for organizations like al-Qaeda.”

Too bad I didn’t know about this line of reasoning when I was 9 and trying to convince my parents not to punish me.

You see, Dad…letting me watch TV this weekend will actually make it less likely that I’ll shoot spitballs in class again in the future. In fact, I guarantee it!  By punishing me, all you’re doing is degrading my image of you. It’s so uncool to punish me, you know. By letting me go though, I’ll actually think you’re a cool guy and think twice before even considering the spitball option ever again! So it’s win win, you see.

Look at that last paragraph above more closely.

Can we guarantee that released terrorists won’t try to attack us? No. Can’t guarantee that. But what we can guarantee is that by releasing them and upholding our “Constitution and our values” (?) that we’ll be safer than we’d be if we didn’t uphold those value

What is he smoking? How does releasing terrorists uphold our “Constitution and values”? And how does that make us more safe? Especially when he’s also saying that he can’t guarantee that these terrorists now running around free won’t attack us. Unsaid is if he still thinks we’re “safer” EVEN IF they freed terrorists attack. It seems that he just doesn’t CARE if we’re attacked by these freed terrorists, doesn’t it?
