About

Hi.

Thanks for stopping by.

My name is Al and this is my blog. I started it on the morning after the 2008 American presidential election. Lots of politics here, with some sports, pop-culture and general thoughts thrown in for good measure. One thing to keep in mind as you browse (and by the way, thank you for doing so!) is that I don’t know the first thing about anything. I’m just some guy sitting next to you on the train or across from you at Chipotle Grill. I read newspapers for the sports, and scour the internet for my news. I’m a tremendous NY Met fan. A lawyer. A husband. A dad. No, not in that order.

If you think I’m full of crap, I urge you to tell me so. If you like something you see, please forward it to a friend. If I got something wrong, please tell me. Otherwise, whatever you do, I thank you for stopping by and ask that you come back again soon.

See you soon.

Al

  1. I like your blog title and header pic.

It’s been years since I listened to a lot of the Doors’ music, but “true sailing is dead” is a line from a Doors’ song, isn’t it?

  2. Thanks. Yes, it’s a line from the song “Horse Latitudes” off the Strange Days album. Apparently when ships of old would sail into certain calm waters, sailors would throw horses overboard to lighten the load. Disturbing image…enough so to inspire a Morrison poem at least.

ps. I was so close to calling this thing “Mute Nostril Agony” but didn’t want to overplay my hand.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you bookmark me. I’ve printed out the lyrics of the poem below for anyone who is interested.
    -Al

    “Horse Latitudes” by Jim Morrison

WHEN THE STILL SEA CONSPIRES AN ARMOR
AND HER SULLEN AND ABORTED CURRENTS BREED TINY MONSTERS
    TRUE SAILING IS DEAD!
    AWKWARD INSTANT
AND THE FIRST ANIMAL IS JETTISONED
LEGS FURIOUSLY PUMPING THEIR STIFF GREEN GALLOP
    AND HEADS BOB UP
    POISE! DELICATE! PAUSE! CONSENT!
    IN MUTE NOSTRIL AGONY
    CAREFULLY REFINED
    AND SEALED OVER

  3. Al, I see you’re a lawyer. Me too. I’ll bookmark you. We attorneys need to stick together. :)

  4. Indeed! What’s the line from Shakespeare? If we don’t hang together, we’ll hang separately? Something like that…:) Cheers.

  5. Not in that order, but like in “Love Story”? (don’t you think now I’m a fan of LS).

  6. Excellent! I saw that movie years ago, and I swear I wasn’t trying to quote it!

  7. “I thank you for stopping by and ask that you come back again soon.”
This is a quote. And, as you see, I’m conformable… Or- am I?
Dan. http://danmihalache.wordpress.com (in fact, you have my adress on the other page: but I’m romanian, and in Romania we use to say: better two meals than two bickers).

  8. Hi! I published some nice bridges photos ( 4 bridge pages) and an article with the main works of Frank Lloyd Wright, maybe you want to see. Regards, Dan.

  9. Hi Al – discovered you through a comment on Patterico’s Pontifications, and I’m enjoying looking around – which I will do more of as soon as I can figure out how to get my two sons to quit screaming at each other this morning. Excellent.

    I’ll be back! Em
