I question the timing.

Ever wonder why the Obama Administration, the Pelosi House and the Reid Senate don’t just step out of the way and let Citi, AIG, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, etc. all just file for Chapter 11 reorganization like any other company would have had to do? I’ve wondered the same thing.

For want of a nail.

From Krauthammer today: It is time for the president to state the obvious: This recession is not caused by excessive executive compensation in government-controlled companies. The economy has been sinking because of a lack of credit, stemming from a general lack of confidence, stemming from the lack of a plan to detoxify the major lending [...]

Dry run.

Put in charge of making sure that taxpayer money didn’t get wasted, the vaulted Obama administration has brought the current AIG debacle to our doorsteps. What does this portend for the rest of the Obamagenda? Jennifer Rubin at Commentary absolutely nails it: The president’s New Deal II agenda depends on two premises — the sky is [...]

The dog that won’t bark.

Ain’t it great how government works? Trouble is, this bill, if passed by the Senate and signed [...]

Moral disarray.

President Obama (via Jake Tapper) on just how we the people should feel about whether the government should have bailed out companies like AIG: The president said, “It was the right thing to do, even though it’s infuriating, even though it makes you angry because you’re thinking, ‘I was responsible and these folks are irresponsible [...]

Straight from the horse’s mouth.

From page H1412 of the final Stimulus Bill passed just weeks ago: “(iii) The prohibition required under clause (i) shall not be construed to prohibit any bonus payment required to be paid pursuant to a written employment contract executed on or before February 11, 2009, as such valid employment contracts are determined by the Secretary [...]

More AIG.

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) wants to pass a law that permits the federal government to recoup the recent AIG bonuses through a confiscatory tax. There are several problems with this, but this one seems an especially vexing one for Mr. Dodd (at least as far as his credibility is concerned): While the Senate was constructing [...]
